The Aaron Stephenson Foundation has been set up in the name of our late son.
Our eldest son, Aaron was diagnosed with a muscle wasting condition eight years ago. We made the most of our time as a family, taking him to swim with dolphins, visiting Disney, visiting Lapland to visit father Christmas and generally making sure he had a really fun and adventurous time. Tragically we lost Aaron early last year, but our most magical memories are those of our special holidays spent together as a family with Aaron.
Our yearly trips had a lasting effect on our Son; we have seen at first hand the benefits these trips were to him and to the other children who also travel there. And it is our tragic loss that has been the catalyst in our decision to set-up the Aaron Stephenson foundation as his lasting legacy, with the aim of helping other families facing similar challenges to swim with the Dolphins. After we lost Aaron, I found myself at the computer for hours at a time recording all our memories, good and bad, this soon turned into a book. On reading it, we soon realized how vital our trips were to us all. I'm extremely proud to say that Aaron's book was published this year.
To see where we went for our healing weeks with the dolphins go to http://www.wildquest.com/, and to see our specially adapted pool home just three minutes from Disney world, you can go to http://www.yourdreamvillas.com/ , we have already had many children stay in our home, it is something we have been helping families with during the last four years now, and will now do this on a far larger scale. Within two years we will hope to be providing our own dolphin program, where we are able to bring children and their families, to have their dream holidays, benefit from the therapeutic effects of the dolphins, meet other like minded families and have a break themselves.
The Charity Foundation aims to bring awareness to the general public of the difficulties faced by families with children with profound disabilities and to raise money to help families who find it difficult to have a holiday together. We aim to launch the foundation with a fund raising event and a fashion show later on in the year so that people can see the importance of our message and help those families get the holiday they deserve.
